An engine creates a lot of heat. Coolant absorbs that heat and carries it to the radiator, where air flow pulls it away. The water pump is what keeps the coolant moving. Inside the pump housing, a spinning impeller pulls coolant from the radiator and pushes it through the engine block and cylinder head. The coolant runs through internal water jackets, collects heat, flows to the top of the radiator, cools as it drops through the core, and gets pulled through the pump again.
If the pump stops, there's no dramatic alarm. The temperature sensor only reacts after things are already heating up—and on a machine under load, that can happen in minutes. That's why the weep hole exists. It's a small opening at the bottom of the pump housing, placed there so a failing seal leaks coolant outward instead of into the bearing. A drip you can see is a problem you can fix. The invisible failure is the one that costs real money.
The Part Where the Customer Almost Walked
Tony was quiet for a moment. Then he said what I expected: “Can you fix it?”
